He has been Artistic Director of the UCD Symphony Orchestra since its foundation in 2002, directing over 50 performances, including concerts in Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden, and the UK. He teaches modules on performance, analysis, orchestration, and twentieth-century music, and has also been a lecturer in orchestral conducting for the BMus Performance Degree at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and for the MA in Film Scoring at Pulse College, Windmill Lane Studios. Ciarán has conducted concerts with orchestras in Ireland and abroad (Baden Sinfonietta, Dublin Baroque Players, Dublin Orchestral Players, Dublin Screen Orchestra, Dublin Symphony Orchestra, Hibernian Orchestra, Irish Doctors Orchestra, Miró Chamber Orchestra, RIAM Symphony Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Royal Academic Orchestra, Savaria Symphony Orchestra, Symphony New Hampshire). He has extensive experience as an orchestral studio conductor, recording music for films, live radio, and Irish, Korean \u0026 US television. She has also played with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, the Irish Youth Wind Ensemble, The Hibernian Orchestra and Rathfarnham Concert Band. She is married and has four children, three of whom currently play with Dublin Youth Orchestras. Julie is a chartered accountant and currently works part-time in the not-for-profit sector. She started volunteering with Dublin Youth Orchestras as their Finance Manager in September 2014 and joined the Board as a Director in May 2016. Her eldest daughter Áine played french horn in the Intermediate, Concert \u0026 Symphony orchestras of DYO, stepping back last year to concentrate on her Leaving Cert studies. Her son Ronan plays trumpet but has spent the last year on percussion in the Concert orchestra \u0026 Róisín currently plays flute in the Inters \u0026 is also learning oboe. Deirdre took up the role of Concert orchestra manager in September 2021.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSince her children started school Deirdre has had several active roles at local \u0026 national level on various committees \u0026 boards. She has served on, acted as secretary \u0026 chaired several parent association committees. She was a founding member of the Kildare branch of the National Parents Council Primary \u0026 represented parents on the national assembly, served as a member of the board of directors \u0026 as vice-chair of that board also. She represented Ireland as a delegate at the European Parents Association in Prague in 2015. In July 2019 she was nominated by the NPC Primary to the board of Kildare Wicklow Education \u0026 Training Board where she serves currently. She is on the board of management of a post-primary school \u0026 chairs the board of management of a primary school. (These terms of office will finish in the not too distant future!).\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDeirdre has been involved for a long number of years with the Friends of St. Brigid’s Hospice. She is an active member of her local district committee but also served as a board member of the charity \u0026 acted as minutes secretary to that board. She is also part of a small team working on a new community gardens \u0026 farm start up project in her locality.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn her spare time she enjoys choral singing \u0026 is a member of The Millicent Singers choir. She served as secretary to this group for 8 years where the choir grew \u0026 developed into a multi-award winning choir. She was a core member of the strategic planning team which established a 5-year plan for the first time ever.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBefore assuming the challenging \u0026 busy role of mother to 4 lively children she worked in the areas of engineering, management consultancy \u0026 telecommunications in business support, process development, training \u0026 general management. She has a BA Hons in French, Spanish \u0026 Portuguese from Trinity College Dublin. Eimear is also involved in conducting research and service development. She has long standing working relationships and experience across statutory, public and non-government sector. Martina is a recipient of many awards including the\u0026nbsp;Liam Swords Award, Trench Award, Arts Council of\u0026nbsp; Ireland ‘Agility Award’ and Music\u0026nbsp;Network’s ‘Music Capital Scheme’. Music has been Martina’s passion since childhood, at\u0026nbsp;age 12 she was awarded a six-year music scholarship to attend the prestigious Wesley\u0026nbsp;College, Dublin and in 2017, she was a Finalist in the national Father Frank Maher Classical\u0026nbsp;Music Awards.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMartina has performed in masterclasses nationally and internationally with world-renowned\u0026nbsp;flautists such as Sir James Galway, Michael Cox, Adam Walker, Linda Chesis and Catríona\u0026nbsp;Ryan. It is absolutely incredible!” This was what she had always hoped for as a mother: that her children would grow up to love music and become as passionate about the spell-binding act of making music together as she is. A keen amateur cellist, she is a member of the Hibernian Orchestra and CoOrch and plays as much chamber music with groups both here and in Germany as she can possibly fit into her schedule. She is very grateful to DYO to give her four children (two violinists, a violist and a double bass player) the opportunity to develop their orchestral skills and when grown up to return to DYO as occasional string tutors.
